Larry and Mindy לארי ומינדי

We don’t know about you – but since this quarantine started, we have been reading a TON of books. Well, ok, actually Mindy is reading a TON of books, but we are both reading ?.

One of Mindy’s main concerns during this period is not running out of books at home! “What’s the problem?” I hear you saying. "You can get unlimited downloads to read online or on your Kindle." Yeah, but Mindy is one of those people. The kind that like to read real books. You know, the kind made out of paper and binding. So the website Book Depository has been a savior. They have loads of books on sale, and free shipping from the UK, so books arrive in Israel quite quickly.

Here are two musical biographies that we thought you might enjoy:

The first is called “Boys in the Trees,” by the iconic seventies’ singer Carly Simon. (Her father was Richard Simon, co-founder of publishing giant Simon & Schuster.) It is a heartfelt, beautifully written, compelling and entertaining memoir of a young woman's coming of age, a reflection on a life begun amidst secrets, and a powerful story of the strength to leave that all behind and forge a path of art, music and love in the Golden Age of folk and rock. Carly is brutally honest in this book, and you will find yourselves hearing her songs in a new light.

The second book is “Billy Joel, The Definitive Biography,” by Fred Schruers. This is a must for any enthusiastic Billy Joel fan (yes, like Mindy!?). Fred Schruers is an acclaimed music journalist and wrote this book based on more than one hundred hours of exclusive interviews with Billy to present an unprecedented look at the life and career of the kid from Long Island who became a rock icon. Schruers reveals the stories behind all the key events and relationships that defined his path to stardom and inspired his signature songs like “Piano Man,” “New York State of Mind,” “She’s Always a Woman,” and many more.

Oh, and by all means, feel free to get Kindle editions if you prefer.

Mindy doesn’t lend out her books anyway! ?
